Chirch & The Dirty Thought

"LIVE FROM STUDIO 5!" GOES TO "CHIRCH"
Our Blogger Seth Hynes-Marquette is taking a needed break somewhere on the other side of the earth and to fill his shoes it will take the combined efforts of Doug the Thug and Dewglass to produce this blog.
If you would like to help out with blogging and social media, marketing etc,
please contact Doug The thug  or Dewglass.
Fill in a little or a lot, and help keep "Live From Studio 5!" humming along.
That’s my sermon, now on to Chirch.
The band consists of Mr. Chirch himself, bassist Colin Elliston, vocalists Jay Nolen, Jesse Holly, and Dezaray Lane.
The drummer is Brandon Johnson, the keyboard player is Corey Stampley and tonight the lead guitar
was played by Trevor Wiest who normally plays for Danami.

On a breezy Wednesday night in August, Chirch and the Dirty Thought showed us all how it's done.  Passion, harmony and well-blended music rang from Studio 5.  Imagine an eclectic sound, mixing the smoothness of R&B, the edge of Rock and Roll, the lyrical respect of the spoken word, and the passion of Soul.  Call it Jazz, or R 'n' B or anything you want.  There were too many elements coming together to do them justice with a single label.
The right mix and blending of voices and instruments took me back to old school.  There were enough surprises to excite today’s listeners with the craft that is missing in pop music. Love and loss were the theme, however even the darker tunes seemed to lift us and make you want to sing along, or even dance.
Chirch and the Dirty Thought are best experienced live, so don’t miss their next show.  While you are waiting, you can listen to this show at ANY time from ANYWHERE on the planet on our FOREVER archives by clicking here:  https://archive.org/details/266Chirch

Woodshop Induces Some Serious Wood In Studio 5!

Woodshop got good and hard in Studio 5 this week, busting out some serious countrified punky rock in the name of good times and good jams. Consisting of Mike Lynch on the kit, Jeff Schwarz on vocals, guitar, professional whistles, and brother Eric Schwarz on vocals, harp, washboard, and one seriously badass kazoo, this threesome delivers a crunchy wall of sound that encapsulates a tongue-in-cheek good times vibe and shot of lyrical sobriety simultaneously. The rhythms are deceptively transparent, the guitars deliver a down-home, life-is-good vibe that backs up an aggressively honest armada of vocals. The entire thing sounds like it just might bring you to tears, or make you smile with ecstasy, or smile with ecstasy while being brought to tears and also grabbing the second of a six pack of your favorite domestic beer.
Catch these ultra-bad dudes playing around the Minneapolis / Saint Paul scene as soon as you possibly can.

Dead Larry Brings Life To Music

Larry might be deceased, but it’s probably a safe bet that his corpse is trying to exhume itself in order to get the f**k down to this band’s relentless groove. Comprised of vocalist and guitarist Mark McGuiness, Josh “Shua” Felling on drums, lead string-snapper Ned Barclay and “Bass Man” Joe Scarpellino, Iowa natives Dead Larry broke into the music scene in the mid 2000’s and haven’t had a reason to look back yet. The instrumentals are powerful; the guitars transition from hard-driving riffs to blanketing cosmic wails so smooth they may as well be sponsored by Neutrogena. The rhythm section packs powerful punches like a Mike Tyson knock off, sporting touches like ultra-clean hi-hat funk and crunchy half-time kicks to super snappy bass solos. Mark’s vocals present a peppy and melodic story-song style, emitting catchy hooks that induce dancing, euphoria, and drug-like bursts of energy.

When it comes to funky rock bands, one can’t go wrong with Dead Larry. Each member brings their own style to the table to create something collectively powerful, while also earning their individual time to show off just a taste of what they’re capable of on their own. It’s obvious that there is a creative and personal chemistry between these guys, and if that doesn’t make for the stems of huge success, I really don’t know what does.

Dead Larry has a new album in the works. Missing out on that would be like missing out on your friends’ May Day barbecue that David Bowie showed up to for some reason.

5 Years Strong: A Tribute To Half A Decade Of Badassery

It’s been an epic five years, and ever since that first broadcast back in the summer of 2010, the crew and musicians featured on Live From Studio 5! have probably made you laugh, cry, scream, weep, smile with unabashed ecstasy, become sexually aroused, inspire you to make a regrettable and impulsive purchase at 1 AM, inspire you to organize a camping trip with your beloved family, and turn the radio up. Or, maybe they just exposed you to some incredible local and touring artists, allowing them to be known unto you and providing a unique and selfless opportunity to support local music.

To help celebrate this Earth-shattering event, the crew had three different artists on the bill. Lakewood Cemetery played the first hour, sporting their bubbly, Iron and Wine / Colbie Callait style with a somber twist. Wrapping the night up were Tom Ayden, who demonstrated an incredible use of finger taps and scratches across the surface of his guitar to emulate a drum kit, and the ruggedly-awesome Tucker Jensen.

If you should run into Studio 5’s hosts or behind-the-scenes-men on the streets: the lovely Cher Dial, the powerful Dewglass (Douglas Solomon), the ultra-knoweldgable Wyatt Sarber, the techy Georgia Cady, Rahib Bajar, Ryan Pollard, and Larry Sputnik, the robust Seth Hynes-Marquette, and finally, the increasingly popular Doug The Thug, give them a hug, or a firm hand shake, or a tender kiss on the cheek, whatever floats their boat. This crew does everything they can to get local music into your virginal, yet precious, ears each week. Show them some love, yo.
