Forget everything you knew about your favorite alternative hip-hop / indie rock band, because Pseudoubt has invaded the Twin Cities music scene with a hypnotically trippy sound guaranteed to lull the hippies into a mellow nirvana and encourage the aggressive type to chill out for ten minutes. Lead vocalist Artifex both belts and raps with impressive syncopation, bringing to mind a similarity to the singing-rap style of Incubus frontman Brandon Boyd. Humming harmoniously beneath Artifex’s tales are Shatter the Primate and Adriatic, both of whom also handle the electronics. Underhill caresses the keyboards, Toivo Hannigan drops a deadly low bass, and finally, Iris commands the skeletal boardwalk of the electric guitar (Underhill, Toivo, and Primate are only part of the live band). Together they weave a solidly repetitious, droning wall of sound, spreading like a gas and penetrating the entire building with pseudo-peppy electric bliss.
Pseudoubt has been around since early 2013, and released their album Greyscale in January the next year. Seeing these dudes live must be made your top priority as soon as possible.
